A buddy of mine is having trouble with his 4x4 engaging. The truck is a 1996 Chevy Silverado Z71 Extended Cab 4x4. It has an automatic transmission with the electronic shift transfer case. The buttons on the dash are the 2hi, 4hi, and 4lo buttons. When you press 4hi to engage 4x4, the light just continuosly blinks. Then when you press 4lo, it still blinks but the truck makes the noise like it's supposed to, locking into 4lo. However, when in 2hi the front driveshaft isn't spinning, when in 4hi or 4lo the driveshaft spins. When you jack up the front of the truck and spin the front driver side wheel while locked into 4x4 and in neutral, the other tire doesn't spin the opposite way like it's supposed too. Before he had the seal replaced between the passenger side cv axle and the axle tube/differential, the passenger side wheel would spin the opposite way when it was jacked up and locked in neutral. I don't know what it could be, but it has to be something to do with the front differential/hubs. The transfer case is engaging and the driveshaft spins when locked in, however the power never makes it to the front wheels. Anyone have any ideas?
Here is a very well treated 1996 Chevy Silverado Z71. Its been an amazing truck for me and i know it'll be a great truck for you. The person that owned this truck before me bought it when it was brand new and took great care of this truck and so have I.
