The CURT hitch here at the top has a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and a 400 pound tongue weight rating. If we we're step up to weight distribution of our trailer, the weight increases to 5,000 pounds max gross trailer weight rating and 500 pounds tongue weight rating. Our Draw-Tite hitch here on the bottom is a little bit different. We have a 4,500 pound max gross trailer weight rating and a 675 pound max gross tongue weight rating. If we we're to step up to weight distribution on the Draw-Tite, our max gross trailer weight rating increases to 5,000 pounds. However, our max gross tongue weight rating actually decreases to 500 pounds. Now on our CURT hitch here we have our standard 5/8 diameter hitch pinhole. We go on down to our Draw-Tite hitch, we still have our standard 5/8 diameter hitch pinhole here towards the front, but towards the back there's an additional hole here. That's for a j-pin stabilization device. A lot of bike racks or cargo carriers already have an anti-rattle device built into the shank that's inserted into the receiver. If yours does not, you can take some of that annoying shake and play and rattle out of it by using a j-pin device to help stabilize the load. Now if you have a look at our Explorer that we have in here today, we currently have a CURT hitch installed on it. As you see, our class three receiver opening here sits very nice and flush against our bumper cover. The only part that really hangs down is our actually safety chain loops here and a little bit of the body of the receiver. The Draw-Tite hitch will look very, very similar to this. As a matter of fact, it hangs down nearly the exact same manner. Now if I was going to be purchasing one of these two hitches here today, if I'm not very mechanically inclined and I want something that's very easy to install, I would go for the CURT myself just because of the fact that the hardware that resecures our exhaust hangers on these tabs here is a little easier to use. The Draw-Tite has the carriage bolt here that you can't get a wrench on to hold it in place while you tighten down the nut. It's kind of difficult to get in there a little bit. If you use a pry bar, though, you can wedge the carriage bolt against here so you can tighten the nut down easier. As far as actual use, I would be leaning towards the Draw-Tite myself just because the larger safety chain openings here, and we have the additional j-pin stabilization device hole. Also, it does have a much higher max gross tongue weight rating at 675 pounds. If you're using it for a cargo carrier or a bike rack, or a non-trailer application, the ability to support that extra weight may be beneficial for you.
