The absence of front "quarter-lights" (separate small triangular windows ahead of the main window on each of the front doors) that open on a vertical hinge mounted approx a third of the way from the front of the little window (giving rise to the French description of them as déflecteurs aux vitres avant) marks this out as a pre 1953 car. It was at the Paris Motor Show in October 1952 that the introduction, for the "1953 model year" of "déflecteurs aux vitres avant" and a noticably larger (sensiblement agrandie) rear window were the big news from the Peugeot 203. SO this picture is of a car dating from somewhere between 1948 and 1952.

Supposedly — we'll leave the tedious fact-finding to you, because this ain't no Project Car Heaven — the Volvo Modular B6294T 2.9 six-cylinder engine, from the front-drive S80, will bolt right up to the bellhousing of the rear-wheel-drive and not-too-hard-to-find-in-junkyards , which means that you should be able to get this very compact L6 into your elderly Volvo coupe without too much trouble. As for the notoriously flaky electronics that control this engine… well, you'll think of something. Before you can solve those problems, though, you'll need the proper recipient for this power-tripling engine, and we've found an excellent candidate in California: , with an asking price exactly the same as that of the Peugeot 203 (go if the listing disappears). This is the rare "high-performance" version of the PV544, complete with 4-speed and dual SU carburetors… all of which you'll be ditching as soon as you get that modern running gear. We suggest that you keep the Keystone mag wheels, though -- you'll have plenty of time to polish them as you argue with the California DMV over this car's lack of a title.
