How To Replace CV Boots - EricTheCarGuy - YouTube

The CV boot on a Toyota Camry acts as a flexible joint in the drive and half shafts. Without this joint, your Camry would not turn left or right. While stress can cause a CV joint to break, the usual cause is stress applied during normal driving to the CV boot itself. Over time, the stress of turning left and right will cause the boot to fail. The boot will then rip and axle grease will leak out, while water, dirt and debris will get into the joint. If you can catch the failure of this joint before it starts to grind, you can repair the joint by replacing the CV boot.

Put the driveshaft horizontally in the vice, and just knock the pot joint off using a blunt chisel and a BFH. Takes less time to do than describe.
It is also the easy way of replacing CV boots without getting covered in grease.

Re: Need help replacing CV boot - need to get back riding today

Just take the plungeing end apart...That's the one with the deep cup...The metal oring/circlip is just inside the outer edge of the cup...Once it comes out,you can see the other clip on the end of the axle that holds the cage on....

How much replacing a cv boot should cost

Once the balljoint is disconnected, you can release the driveshaft from the hub and then withdraw the shaft from the Van completely, ready for stripping down and replacing the CV boots.
